September has come and gone. And that means “Life Insurance Awareness Month” has come and gone as well.

 

What a shame. Life Insurance Awareness should be 365/24/7. The market is huge. The need is huge. There are so many people asking to be asked. Asking to purchase additional life insurance to cover final expenses, income protection and more. Ah yes, the magic of life insurance.

 

The market is there. The people are there. What are you waiting for? Sorry, no excuses.

 

The market has not dried up. Here’s the proof. The following facts are from several of LIMRA’s* life insurance consumer studies.

 

  • Nearly one in three Americans believe they need more life insurance.

  • Fifty-four percent of Americans own some sort of life insurance.

  • Nearly 40 percent of Americans say they wish their spouse or partner had more life insurance coverage, a 10 percent increase since 2011.

  • Men continue to be more likely to own life insurance at 62 percent, compared with 56 percent of women.

  • The gap between husbands and wives is even more pronounced. Seventy-one percent of husbands own life insurance, while just 63 percent of wives do.

  • Half of married millennials wish their spouse had more life insurance.

 

Why do Americans own life insurance?

  • Cover burial and final expenses (85%)

  • Help replace lost wages/income of a wage earner (67%)

  • Transfer wealth or leave an inheritance (63%)

Reaching Consumers

  • 45% of American households say they are likely to buy life insurance in the next 12 months.

  • The most important factor for Americans when buying life insurance is that it is easy to understand (83%).

  • Across all age groups and income levels, insured households said they want to review their life insurance coverage annually.

I think you can agree from reading the LIMRA facts that Life Insurance Awareness should be 365/24/7 since the market is there and it’s huge. So, what are you waiting for? Sorry, no excuses.
